10 more people kidnapped by gunmen in Baghdad

RBAGHDAD, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Ten more people were kidnapped in Baghdad by gunmen disguised as policemen on Tuesday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"Twenty-five armed men wearing police commando uniforms in 15 pickup trucks similar to those used by Iraqi security forces stormed another Daewoo Electric Appliances bureau and its exhibition hall at Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad, kidnapping 10 of its workers," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Earlier in the day, gunmen wearing police commando uniforms in two cars stormed a Daewoo Electric Appliances bureau in Baghdad's Karrada district, kidnapping an executive director and two engineers.

In a separate abduction, another group of gunmen in Iraqi army uniform on nine sport utility vehicles attacked the Muossa private bureau for money exchange in Baghdad's western district of Harthiyah, kidnapping six people and plundering more than 60,000 U.S. dollars.

Violence has continued infesting Iraq as gunmen frequently carry out lootings and kidnappings, demanding large ransoms.

The elite military-style police commando forces, affiliated to the Shiites-controlled Interior Ministry, have been accused by the Sunni community of kidnapping and killing Sunni members including clerics, a charge denied by the ministry. Enditem
