Residents around gas leak site in SW China resettled
www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-27 23:26:54

CHONGQING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Measures have been taken to help residents who were evacuated from a gas well hit by a gas leak in a southwestern Chinese town on Saturday.

More than 10,000 people living around the Luojia No. 2 well in Gaoqiao Town of Kaixian County, Chongqing Municipality, have been evacuated.

The local government has set up special working teams to ensure food supply, lodging, medical services and security for the residents in every resettlement site.

The government is also monitoring people's health and educating them on disease prevention.

No epidemic or food poisoning case has been discovered, the county's health bureau said on Monday.

The headquarters dealing with the gas leakage accident said the second plan to cap the gas well is expected to be adopted on Monday or Tuesday, as the first plan did not prove effective.

The well, belonging to the China National Petroleum Corporation's Sichuan Provincial Petroleum Administration, is in the vicinity of the Luojia No. 16H gas well, where a deadly gas blowout killed 243 people on Dec. 23, 2003. Enditem
