BANGKOK, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's
Secretary-General Prommin Lertsuridej Monday affirmed the prime minister
has a good intention in his proposal to form a National Government in the
post-election period to handle ongoing disturbance and bring peace and unity
back to the country.
In his address during an election campaign Sunday evening, Thaksin said he would
invite all political parties, including the former three opposition parties,
as well as representatives of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD),
the coalition of demonstrators against him, to join the National Government.
His proposal was abruptly turned down by both the opposition bloc and the
PAD.
Prommin said the caretaker prime minister made the proposal because he
viewed the National Government could help build up the national unity.
"The prime minister made the move with a good intention and sincerity to ease
the current political tension and bring peace to the country," he told
journalists.
On the opposition parties and PAD's claim that the caretaker government had already
lacked morality and legitimacy, he said, no matter how they viewed, the
majority of people would finally decide what they want.
He said the proposed establishment of the National Government was initiated in
compliance with the advice of the King, who wants to see the national
reconciliation because it could bring peace and order to the country.
He added that the National Government would be formed in accordance with the constitutional framework in which the prime minister must come from the election. Enditem |
