กกกกSpecial Report: Crisis in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 27 (Xinhua) -- A powerful bomb was successfully detonated by police Monday morning at the headquarters of Thailand's main opposition party just half of an hour before the deadline it was set to explode.

The one kilogram TNT bomb was found planted beside the building housing the Democrat Party's headquarters in Bangkok around 7:00 a.m. (0000 GMT) local time on Monday. The police said it was set to explode at 10:50 a.m. (0350 GMT) local time.

After the defusing attempt failed, policemen evacuated the nearby personnel and gunned to the green box which contains the explosive at 10:20 a.m. (0320 GMT) local time. The detonation wave spread as far as fifty meters around.

The police believe a third party was involved in the vicious incident which aimed to create a situation amid the political turmoil. An investigation was immediately underway after the blast. Enditem
