MELBOURNE, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Sunday urged 14 missing athletes from Sierra Leone to report to police.

The Commonwealth Games Corporation today withdrew the missing athletes' accreditation at the request of Sierra Leone team officials.

Department of Immigration spokesman Sandy Logan said the athletes will be in breach of their visas as of midnight (AEDT) tonight.

"We strongly urge the athletes or anyone who may be aware of their whereabouts to contact their local police," he said.

"We're well-placed, secondly, through our compliance teams and our intelligence units, including contacts of course within the local Sierra Leonean communities in Australia, we'll be actively pursuing those leads."

Last Thursday, six athletics competitors and a weightlifter from the Sierra Leone team went missing.

The total number of athletes now reported missing from the Games Village has reached 16, with a Tanzanian and a Bangladeshi still unaccounted for. Enditem
