YAOUNDE, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-six people have been rescued from a boat that capsized off the coast of Cameroon Thursday, while the other passengers remained unaccounted, said Cameroon's regional administrator Gregoire Mvondo Friday.

"The number of the rescued has risen to 26. Rescuers saved 23 at the incident spot immediately after they learned the emergency and rescued two more later. A moment ago we rescued one more at a place about 100 kilometers to the north of the sinking boat," Mvondo told Xinhua by telephone.

He said there were an estimated 150 to 200 people aboard the boat, which was sailing to Gabon's economic capital, Port Gentil, from Nigerian town of Orong.

The rescue work was continuing and the cause of the incident isunder investigation, Mvondo said. Enditem
