www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-25 04:18:51

SINGAPORE, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The first solar panel which hasbeen incorporated into Singapore's national grid was launched Friday by Sunset Solar, a German solar power systems company, and its local unit Sunseap.

According to Channel NewsAsia report on Friday night, the solarpanel worth 200,000 Singapore dollars (about 120,000 U.S. dollars)can only generate enough electric power for nine households at present.

However, Sunset Solar believes that it will eventually export electricity to regional markets using Singapore as a base.

Sunset Solar and Sunseap plan to collect more data and share them with Singapore authorities which are encouraging more research and development in the alternative energy including solarenergy.

The global solar power market is estimated to be worth between 15 billion Singapore dollars (about 9 billion U.S. dollars) to 20 billion Singapore dollars (about 12 billion U.S. dollars) a year, the report said. Enditem
