MADRID, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish government
said on Thursday that it would not hold talks with the Basque separatist
rebels of ETA unless the group makes good its ceasefire pledge announced a
day earlier.
SAN JOSE, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Costa Rica's
president-elect Oscar Arias on Thursday described the permanent ceasefire
announcement by Spain's Basque separatist organization ETA as "a historic
event."
European Union(EU) leaders meeting in Brussels for
their spring summit on Thursday welcomed the announcement of a permanent
ceasefire by ETA, but stopped short of saying if it consider removing the
armed Basque separatist group from the EU's terrorist blacklist.
Politicians and governments across the world
expressed a cautious welcome to Spanish separatist group ETA's
announcement of a permanent ceasefire on
Wednesday.
A call warning that the Basque separatist group ETA had
planted three bombs in northern Spain was a false alarm, the regional
government said on Wednesday.
