RAMALLAH, March 22 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian activist of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) was killed early Wednesday in an Israeli raid in the West Bank town of Jericho, Palestinians security sources said.

Israeli soldiers stormed the Aqabat Jabar refugee camp on the outskirts of Jericho, hunting for wanted militants, said the sources.

Ramadan Mutair, 22, died when Israeli soldiers opened fire after trying to persuade him to surrender, said the sources. Israeli army said that Mutair was a wanted Jihad militant and he was killed after he rejected to come out of a house where he was hiding.

Two other Jihad militants were arrested in the operation, according to the sources.

Wednesday's operation came a day after Israeli police captured on Tuesday a would-be bomber, who was carrying explosives meant for a bombing in central Israel.

It was later found out that the prospective bomber was a Jihad militant. Enditem
