Special Report: Thaksin given ultimatum to resign within 48 hour
BANGKOK, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Demonstrators against
Thai caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra campaigned in front of the
headquarters the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) in Bangkok Wednesday
morning, calling for the election watchdog to cancel the April 2 snap election,
the Thai News Agency reported.
Thaksin's opponents, led by the People's Alliance for
Democracy (PAD), rallied at the National Stadium before moving to the EC's
headquarters.
Alleging that the forthcoming general election would
be non-transparent as only Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party and a few minor
political parties contest in the early poll, the PAD-led demonstrators called
for the EC to cancel the election.
During the PAD's rally in front of EC's headquarters,
a group of people calling themselves the "People's Power for Thailand" also
gathered in the area calling for the anti-Thaksin demonstrators to end their
rallies, saying that the continuing demonstrations are damaging the peaceful
society and the national economy. Enditem |
