BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Several experts have
proposed the revision of China's Advertisement Law in order to ban
advertisements that mislead consumers.
"Now the whole of society is rallying against fake medical advertisements, making
the problem an imminent one to solve," Feng Shiliang, the head of the Hospital
of Diabetes Treatment Center inNortheast Liaoning Province, told the Inspection
Daily.
Medical advertisements about hospitals and medicines are flooding the
Chinese media. A government figure says that about 2.5 million Chinese took the
wrong medication because of misleading advertising.
Luo Yifeng, a leader figure in Beijing Chemical Industry Group Corporation, proposed
to set up the Advertising Law on Public Interest to secure enough time for
more useful adverts to be shown on TV.
"The public service ads could effectively influence the audience,
especially at a time when the country is looking to build a harmonious society,"
said Luo.
Meanwhile, Cai Zixing, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference, opposed the use of children in advertising, saying that ads
starring children could pollute their spiritual world, by misleading them
with biased, unhealthy values.
"Involving our kids in the market economy and various commercial activities
too early will have a negative impact on their healthy growth, and the pursuit
of fame and money will put them under great pressure and even lead to mental
trauma," Cai said.
TV commercials turned over more than half of China's television and radio
total revenue in 2005, statistics with the State Administration of Radio, Film
and Television said.
Last year, TV and radio commercials turned over 45.86 billion yuan (5.67
billion US dollars), accounting for 51.6 percent of thetotal 88.88 billion yuan
(11.11 billion US dollars) of the broadcasting industry. Enditem
