SEOUL, March 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korean renowned Seoul National University (SNU) decided to recall the professorship of disgraced stem cell researcher Hwang Woo-suk on Monday afternoon.
The decision was made by the disciplinary panel of the SNU after the clone researcher was found involved in fabrication of results in two papers published in U.S,-based journal of Science earlier this year.
The panel also banned Hwang to assume public posts in the next five years and halved his retirement pension.
Hwang, 52, was professor at Veterinary College of the SNU.
The panel also decided to either suspend or reduce the salaries of six other professors involved in the cloning research project for periods ranging from one month to three months.
Monday's decision was another blow to Hwang, who once was honored as national hero in South Korea.
Last Thursday, the South Korean government revoked his license on embryonic stem cell research. Enditem
