"Little Red Flowers" premieres in Beijing

BEIJING, March 20 -- Chinese director Zhang Yuan's latest movie "Little Red Flowers" held a kid-packed premiere ceremony at Kunlun Hotel in Beijing on Saturday.

Actors and guests at the premiere

Lead actress Li Xiaofeng and ten 4-year-old kids who appear in the film joined the director in attending the ceremony, making it much like a kindergarten party.

Zhang Yuan remarked, "It is the most difficult film and also the greatest one I've ever made." He also expressed his satisfaction with all the very young actors, "From choosing actors to finishing the shooting, the whole experience was amazing although not without difficulties. These kids are gifts from God. I've cooperated with lots of great actors before but these kids have been the most satisfactory to work with. "

Dong Bowen, the four-year-old who plays the lead character Fang Qiangqiang, quite resembles the childhood look of novelist Wang Shuo, whose story the film was based on.

Facing so many flashing cameras, the boy apparently was uneasy, answering "NO" to most questions, like "Do you like shooting movies?" or "Do you want to be a star in the future."

The smart and distinctive boy has been greatly acknowledged by director Zhang for his acting in the movie. ¡¡

"Little Red Flowers" is based on renowned novelist Wang Shuo's book with the same title, which tells the story totally from a four year old boy's perspective. It is the second time that Zhang Yuan has adapted a novel by Wang into film. The last one was "I Love You", which co-starred actress and director Xu Jinglei and Tong Dawei.

This film's plot revolves around three and four year-old boys trying to get along with other kids and teachers in a kindergarten.

"Little Red Flowers" opened in cinemas across China beginning March 18.
