MELBOURNE, March 19 (Xinhua) -- World champion Jessicah Schipper from Australia claimed the women's 100 meters butterfly title in the Commonwealth Games here on Sunday.

Schipper swam a Games record of 57.48 seconds to beat teammate Libby Lenton by 0.32 seconds for her first gold medal of the Games.

Lenton, who won the 100m freestyle final yesterday, failed to clinch the third gold medal as she finished second in a time of 57.80 seconds.

Canada's Audrey Lacroix took bronze in 58.89.

Schipper said she was excited with the first gold from the Games so far.

"I always wanted to be one of the Madam Butterfly (in Australia), so I think I'm doing all right at claiming that title," she said.

"I don't want to come across as a nasty person, I enjoy being afriendly little person." Enditem
