SINGAPORE, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Queen of Britain Elizabeth II ended her three-day state visit to Singapore Saturday after presenting the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Singapore Turf Club.

The annual race was named in the Queen's honor during her first visit to the city state in 1972.

The Queen's husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, also visited the Singapore Sports School on Saturday, according to Channel NewsAsia report.

The royal couple arrived here on Thursday night at the invitation of Singapore President S. R. Nathan after her state visit to Australia, where she had declared the opening of the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

She met with President Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and was given a ceremonial welcome and a state banquet by the President on Friday.

The royal couple also laid a wreath at the Cenotaph, which has become a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the two World Wars, and visited Singapore's National Library and Toa Payoh community on Friday.

This was the Queen's third state visit to Singapore since its independence in 1965. Her last visit here was in 1989. Enditem
