MELBOURNE, March 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Australian swimmer Leisel Jones claimed an unexpected gold at women's 50m breaststroke final of the Commonwealth Games here on Friday.

Jones beat her compatriot Jade Edmistone to win the gold in 30.55 seconds. World record holder Edmistone took the silver with 30.84.

Tarnee White completed the sweep for the hosts Australia to finish third in 31.26.

Jones, the 20-year-old who specializes in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, said she felt surprised for the gold.

"I'm very shocked to win the 50m final. I think I had a quite good control of the it today.

"I think it's a good start for my short course swimming and it is even better for the longer distance games," said Jones. Enditem
