BEIJING, March. 16 -- Director Lu Xuechang's latest movie, "Rent a Bride," opens in Shenzhen Friday.

The movie, adapted from a real-life story, tells about a man who paid a prostitute to act as his wife and visit his dying father to fulfill his father's last wish to see the son leading a stable and happy life. But something involved in a series of incidents.

The director of "Cara, My Dog!" again focuses on ordinary people's lives. In a recent interview with the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, Lu said that he wanted to explore the relationships between ordinary people.

He said: "A good movie makes you ask questions of yourself after seeing it. This is what I always stick to when I'm making a movie. 'Rent a Bride' is a thought-provoking look at what is the essence of the relationship between two people. No matter who you are and what you do, everyone needs equality and respect."

Set in a small village in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, and Beijing , the movie stars heart-throb Pan Yuemin. The low-budget production was shot in one month.

Lu, who also directed "A Lingering Face" and "Growing," said: "Someone once offered me a great amount of money and asked me to direct a movie. But I didn't accept it. I don't think China lacks these blockbusters. The most valuable movie should be those that focus on people's lives and spirits. This is what I love to do and I'm happy when I'm working on it."

"Rend a Bride" will be screened at Golden Harvest with Chinese subtitles.
