Thai first-deputy PM opens door for talks with opponents

BANGKOK, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand's First Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya said on Wednesday night that the Thai Rak Thai Party is willing to talk to the opponents and the party's legal team is making arrangements for the talks.

He said the talk will not be a live debate.

Meanwhile, a government spokesman also said the government is ready for talks with all the parties that oppose caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He said every party can attend the meeting but the form will never be an open-door one as proposed by the anti-Thaksin parties.

The moves made by the government and the Thai Rak Thai Party come hours after a short speech made by President of the Privy Council Gen Prem Tinsulanond.

Late Wednesday, Gen Prem appealed to all parties concerned to give priority to public and national interests.

In a brief interview with local reporters at his private residence in Deves area here, Prem said he believes all parties involved in the country's current political tension are rational and will think and act whatever benefits the nation most and makes the general public happy. Enditem
