JAKARTA, March 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Over 400 people from several Muslim organizations on Tuesday staged a rally in front of the U.S.embassy office in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, opposing the U.S.State Secretary Condoleezza Rice's visit.

The protesters came form Muslim radical group of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia and Majelis Mujahiddin Indonesia (MMI) led by Detained terrorist suspect Abu Bakar Bashir, the biggest and the second biggest Muslim organizations of Nahdlatul Ulema (NU) and Muhmmaddiyah.

More than 300 policemen were on guard in front of the embassy compound, equipped with towering barb wires and two waters canons.

The protesters said that the United States was too far in interferring domestic affairs of Indonesia. They also expressed their rejection on the way of settlement of a row between the state oil firm Pertamina and US-based oil firm Exxon Mobil Corp., and the contract of work with another US gold-mine company PT Freeport which brought less benefit to the most populous Muslim country.

Rice visited a boarding school in the capital of Jakarta on Tuesday morning and met with her Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirajuda. She is going to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday afternoon, a U.S. embassy press officer said.

Earlier, Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Symasir Siregar said that it was all right for people to stage demonstrations during Rice's visit in Indonesia but they must not turn "anarchic."

National Police Chief General Sutanto also said that police would do their utmost to ensure security during Rice's visit. Enditem
