WASHINGTON, March 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The approval rating for U.S. President George W. Bush has remained at one of the lowest levels during his presidency, a new poll released on Monday showed.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found that only 36 percent of Americans approved the job the president was doing, while 60 percent said they disapproved of his job performance.

The approval rating was two percentage points lower from a poll conducted in late February-early March.

On Iraq, 57 percent of Americans believed the Iraq war was a mistake, half believed the war was going badly, and 67 percent said the president did not a have a clear plan for handling the situation there, according to the poll of 1,001 adults, which was conducted last Friday and Saturday and had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

Similar results were found in other recent polls. A Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted early this month showed Bush's overall job approval rating at 41 percent, while nearly six in 10 Americans disapproved of his job performance.

In the Post-ABC poll, 65 percent of those surveyed said the president did not have a clear plan for handling the situation in Iraq, 57 percent said the war was not worth fighting, and only 40 percent said Bush was doing a job there. Enditem
