MONTEVIDEO, March 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Uruguayan soccer team Rocha left for
Ecuador on Monday ahead of a Thursday game with Liga Deportiva Universitaria de
Quito (LDUQ) hoping to win a point to take it through to the next round of the
Libertadores Cup.
Rocha, a small club whose monthly budget is only 15,000 U.S. dollars, won
its first ever Libertadores Cup game last week, beating LDUQ 3-2 in Uruguay.
Rocha and LDUQ are second and third in the group, with four and three points
respectively, making this game key to see who will qualify from Group Five of
the Libertadores Cup to fight in the knockout competition.
The Rocha team will go to Guayaquil to train until Thursday, and will only
move to Guayaquil seven hours before kick-off, in a bid to counteract the effect
of Quito's high altitude on its players. Ecuador's capital is some 2,800 feet
above sea level.
Rocha manager, Luiz Gonzalez, said that the return match would be very
different from the first round, not least because LDUQ would be more comfortable
at home in Quito. Audience pressure would be strong, he added, and the game
could prove very negative for LDUQ if it does not get a positive result in the
first few moments. Enditem |
