New York airport terminal reopens after partial evacuation
www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-11 07:55:12

NEW YORK,March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The Delta Airlines terminal at New York's LaGuardia Airport has been reopened after it was partially evacuated following a security breach Friday afternoon.

According to officials with the Transportation Security Administration, the terminal was partially evacuated when a man walked away from a security checkpoint before screeners could finish testing a swab for explosives residue from his shoes.

A TSA spokesman said they believe the entire episode is a misunderstanding, and that the suspect most likely did not realize the screening process was not yet completed.

Part of the Delta terminal was evacuated for several hours while police searched for the man, who has still not been found.

All outgoing flights were also immediately halted due to the security breach. It is unclear when those flights will be allowed to resume, but travelers are advised to call their carrier ahead of time to determine whether their flight is delayed. Incoming flights were not affected by the evacuation. Enditem
