China strongly condemns terrorist blasts in India

China was astonished at Tuesday's blasts in India, and strongly condemned the terrorist accident targeting innocent common people, said Qin.

Three explosions ripped through the crowded Hindu holy city of Varanasi in North India's Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday evening, killing more than 20 people and injuring about 60.

Qin expressed sympathy for the victims and extended sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the injured people.

ROK new chief negotiator for six-party talks visits China

The new chief negotiator of the Republic of Korea (ROK) for the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue arrived in Beijing Thursday to confer with China on relevant issues concerning the discussions.

"The new chief negotiator Chun Young-woo is welcomed on his visit to China, during which he will get acquainted with the Chinese side," Qin said.

During his visit, Chun will meet with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei Friday, exchanging views on the six-party talks.

Meanwhile, Chun, as a senior official with the ROK Foreign Ministry, will also discuss international and regional issues of common concern, Qin said.

The six-party talks, involving China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, the ROK, Russia and Japan, have been stalled after the first phase of the fifth round of six-party talks in November last year.

Qin said all parties concerned at present keep in contact with each other in various forms.

The Joint Statement adopted at the end of the fourth round of talks on Sept. 19, 2005 in Beijing was viewed as the most substantial one produced since the talks began in August 2003.

The statement says that the six parties unanimously reaffirmed that the goal of the talks is to ensure denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner.

"I believe there are no changes in the six parties' stances," Qin said, hoping that all parties concerned would continue showingflexibility and sincerity to create sound conditions for the earlyresumption of the six-party talks.

Chun was appointed as the chief negotiator to the six-party talks last month, replacing Song Min-soon who was promoted in January this year to the post of chief secretary to the president for unification, foreign and security policy.
