BAGHDAD, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- A U.S. soldier was killed and four others wounded when a roadside bomb detonated near their patrol in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.
The attack took place on Tuesday when the soldiers, assigned to the 1st U.S. Armored Division, were killed and wounded in the blast caused by an improvised explosive device near their patrol in Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, the military said in a statement.
The name of the killed soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it said.
The latest death brings the total death toll of U.S. military personnel in Iraq to about 2,300 since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. Enditem |
