NEW DELHI, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) man, Salar, was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) in Lucknow in Central Indian state Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, New Delhi Television reported here.

Salar alias Salim was wanted in connection with several blast cases.

The man is believed to be a top commander of Lashkar, which operates in north India, and the outfit's main man in Delhi and Lucknow, the report said.

The encounter was a joint operation by the police of the Indian-controlled Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh police.

Tuesday night, holy city Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh saw two bomb blasts, leaving several dead.

It is yet to be ascertained if he had a direct hand in Tuesday's blasts in the state. Enditem
