KATHMANDU, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The bodies of 35 guerrillas, who were killed in a clash in Ilam district in eastern Nepal on March 5, were found on Tuesday, chief district officer (CDO) of Ilam said here on Wednesday.
The bodies were found scattered in Biblyante, Chureghat and Puwa river areas in Ilam district, some 300 km east of Kathmandu, Krishna Poudel, CDO of Ilam told local reporters.
With the latest find, the death toll has reached 47 as of Tuesday evening, Poudel said.
Following the clash, the guerrillas took away the bodies of their comrades, Poudel said, adding that some bodies could be seen buried along the Mechi Highway.
"The district jail was destroyed in the guerrillas-launched attack and 37 prisoners, who have come into contact after the attack, have been released on parole," Poudel said , adding "altogether 103 prisoners of the jail have been absconding following the attack."
The District-based Post Office, residence of the Register of the Appellate Court, Municipality Office and some other buildings were damaged in the incident, he said.
A search operation to nab the guerrillas is underway, Poudel added. Enditem |
