GAZA, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Tuesday slammed the statements made by Palestinian presidency's Secretary-General Tayeb Abed Rahim who accused Hamas of attempting to topple President Mahmoud Abbas.

   In a press statement sent to reporters, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that "such statements disagree with the clear attitudes of President Abbas, and it's not related to the Presidency headquarters."

   Abdel Rahim accused Hamas on Monday of attempting to topple Abbas by annulling all previous parliament decisions, including one which give Abbas wider powers.

   Responding to Rahim's statement, Abu Zuhri said that such statement targeted Hamas movement and its leaders "unfortunately coincides with a Western and Israeli campaign to get rid of Hamas."

   He called on Rahim to stop this straining step which is strange from the Palestinian people's morals.

   The Hamas-dominated Palestinian Legislative Council voted to revoke previous parliament decisions at its first session held on Monday, which triggered the former ruling Fatah party's walkout protest. Enditem
