TOKYO, March 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting South Korean vice foreign minister on Monday held talks with his Japanese counterpart over bilateral relations and met with Japan's foreign minister and chief cabinet secretary in Tokyo.
In the subcabinet-level strategic dialogue, Yu Myung Hwan, South Korean Vice Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi discussed ways to improve bilateral ties, which has been strained due to Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine.
According to Japan's foreign ministry, the two vice ministers agreed on the importance to keep peace and stability in northeastern Asia and changed ideas on historical issues between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the Korean nuclear issue, relations with the United States and the joint study of history.
Yu also met separately with Foreign Minister Taro Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe, and they agreed to closely cooperate in pushing the resumption of the six-party talks on the Korean peninsula nuclear issue and to improve exchanges between young people of the two countries. Enditem
