BANGKOK, March 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The Supreme Administrative Court of Thailand on Monday rejected petitions filed by a group of political activists seeking a ruling against the legitimacy of the House dissolution recently effected by caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the subsequent general election.

The Supreme Administrative Court said it is not legally empowered to take such matters into account, due to the Administrative Proceedings Act of 1999, and for that reason resolved to drop the case, of which petitioners desperately sought a Court ruling against the legitimacy of the late February House dissolution and the April 2 general election.

Neither did the Supreme Administrative Court consider itself legally empowered to take into account another case, which was lodged against the Election Commission for having called the general election in the consequences of the House dissolution.

Due to the tight political situation in Thailand, Thaksin called for a House Dissolution on Feb. 24 and announced April 2 as the general election date. Enditem
