MANILA, March 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The Philippine military has orderedthe confinement of an Army major who allegedly has links with Danilo Lim, the former commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) involved in the latest plot to overthrow PresidentGloria Macapagal-Arroyo, a ranking officer said on Monday.

The Army leaders ordered the detention of Maj. Jason Aquino, a former officer of the FSRR, when he showed up at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio over the weekend, an Army officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The ranking officer said Aquino had not been reporting to the Army since he was relieved from the FSRR in July last year for involvement in a destabilization move.

Aquino's relief was announced by then Special Operations Command commander now Army chief Lt. Gen. Hermogenes Esperon after Aquino was found to have been circulating pamphlets entitled "The New Order" which demanded change in government.

"He walked in and was not allowed to leave," the officer said of Aquino who is presently confined inside Fort Bonifacion, particularly at the Intelligence Security Group compound of the Army.

He also said Aquino is under investigation for his alleged membership with the Para sa Bayan, supposedly a group of military officers disgruntled against the Arroyo government which was allegedly organized by Lim.

Lim was restricted since Feb. 24 after the military received information that he and his men would be joining an anti-Arroyo street protest that day and withdraw support from the President. Enditem
