BAGHDAD, March 6 (Xinhuanet) -- A car bomb went off in a market in the northern Iraqi city of Baquba on Monday, killing five people and wounding several others, police sources said.

The bomb detonated near a police patrol in a market in Baquba, some 60 km northeast of Baghdad, said the police sources, adding that children were among the casualties.

Baquba has seen continuous violence and killings since the bombing of a holy Shiite shrine in Samarra, some 120 km north of Baghdad, on Feb. 22.

So far, more than 500 Iraqis are estimated to have been killed in sectarian conflicts sparked by the shrine bombing. Enditem
