Thaksin denies knowledge of crisis meeting offer
www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-05 21:48:30

BANGKOK, March 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand's Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has denied any knowledge of an offer for a crisis meeting from leading critic and key protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul.

Sondhi has been quoted Sunday as saying that he would be prepared to hold a public meeting with the prime minister. Government House was suggested as one possible venue.

"I am ready for a meeting with Prime Minister Thaksin tomorrow, but never a close-door meeting. It should be attended by some representatives from the people," Sondhi told Xinhua at the Sanam Luang (Royal Square) rally on Sunday afternoon.

But Thaksin said before traveling to the northeastern province of Khon Kaen that he knew nothing of the issue. He also declined to comment on commitments given by a number of protest leaders that the mass anti-government demonstration in the capital would continue until he steps down.

Thaksin is going to the province to canvass support for candidates of his Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) contesting local seats in the April 2 general election. Enditem
