DAR ES SALAAM, March 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Tanzania is to get a debt relief package amounting to at least 300 million U.S. dollars from the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The debt relief package was announced here in Dar es Salaam during the visit by AfDB officials, according to the Tanzanian Treasury.

A Treasury official, who prefers anonymity, told the media on Saturday that the debt relief package would be between 300 millionand 400 million dollars.

"The exact figure has not yet been determined," said the Treasury official, "but it cannot be less than 300 million."

The debt relief came as a follow-up to the G8 debt cancellation initiative.

The African Development Bank sent six of its officials to Tanzania for an on-the-spot inspection that started on Friday. TheAfDB inspects routinely projects it supports in different affiliated countries. Enditem
