KABUL, March 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A bomb attack hit a Canadian convoy Friday and damaged the vehicle in Afghan southern province of Kandahar, one day after the car overturn in which one Canadian soldier was killed, seven were injured.

"A bomb attack hit a Canadian convoy in the highway between Kandahar city and Spin Boldak, about 10 km south of Kandahar city and near the U.S. airbase. The Canadian vehicle was damaged," Akahtar Mohammad, the district police chief of Daman told Xinhua.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) officer who doesn't want to be identified also confirmed the news and said, "A white corolla hit and exploded the Canadian convoy, one of the military vehicle was damaged and at least one Canadian soldier was killed."

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yusuf Ahmadi claimed the responsibility of the explosion and said one of the Taliban loyalists carried out the attack, and three Canadian vehicles were damaged, and several soldiers were killed and injured.

This is the second incident happened to Canadian troops in two days.

One Canadian soldier was killed, seven others were injured in the car incident Thursday in the area, about 10 km west of Kandahar city.

U.S. military handed over Tuesday the command of Coalition forces in southwestern Afghanistan including Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul and Helmand to Canadian troops under the lead of NATO.

About 2,200 Canadian troops stayed in south Afghanistan for the cleanup operations.

Taliban militants who vowed to continue holy war until the withdrawal of all foreign troops in the country have intensified the attack since the beginning of this year, in which more than 100 people were killed in the militancy. Enditem
