Kadima party losing seats as Israeli election impending: poll
www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-02 05:40:28

JERUSALEM, March 1 (Xinhuanet) -- With less than one month before national elections, Israel's Kadima party, now led by Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, is slowly but steadily losing seats against its rival parties, local newspaper Ha'aretz reported Wednesday in its latest poll.

The poll jointly conducted with Channel 10 TV News showed that the erosion of the Kadima, once led by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon who has remained in a coma since he was hospitalized on Jan. 4 fora massive cerebral hemorrhage, continued in the past week.It lost another two seats in the poll and now has only 37 seats among the 120-seat Knesset (parliament).

According to the poll, the two other main parties lumbering just behind Kadima have also gained little to no ground. The left-wing Labor Party has held a projected 19 seats for the past three weeks, while the right-wing Likud party has managed to regain just one seat, reaching 15 seats now.

It is important to note that the poll was conducted one day before the Likud Central Committee convened Wednesday evening to vote on altering the method by which it selects its Knesset list. The Ha'aretz-Channel 10 TV News poll was conducted Tuesday and questioned a sample population of 590 respondents. There is a 4.1 percent margin of error. Enditem
