WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The approval rating for U.S. President
George W. Bush's job performance has fallen to 34 percent, an all-time low, from
42 percent last month, a new poll released on Tuesday showed.
The CBS News poll found that 59 percent of respondents said they
disapproved of Bush's job performance, in the aftermath of a security debate
over a port deal under which a company from the Middle East would take over some
operations of six major U.S. ports from a British company.
Seventy percent of Americans thought the transaction should not be allowed to
go through, and only 21 percent sided with the White House that the deal
should be allowed.
On Iraq, Bush's approval rating fell to as low as 30 percent, amid recent
violence in the war-ravaged country, a seven-percentage-point drop from January.
Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said U.S. efforts to bring stability
and order to Iraq were going badly, while 36 percent said things were going
well.
On the war on terrorism, the president's approval rating also dropped to an
all-time low of 43 percent, from last month's 52 percent. Fifty percent
disapproved of his actions on the anti-terror war, up from 43 percent last
month.
The poll of 1,018 adults was conducted last Wednesday through Sunday, with margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. Enditem |
