BAGHDAD, Feb. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The death toll from three explosions that hit Baghdad on Tuesday reached 33, with over 70 others injured, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

Earlier, the source said 13 Iraqi civilians were killed and 40 others wounded.

The third explosion was the most fatal attack, with 23 civilians killed and 47 others wounded, according to updated casualty numbers provided by the source.

"The third blast was caused by a detonation of an explosive charge in the Amin district in southeastern Baghdad," said the source.

"The first explosion, caused by a car bomb, occurred in a busy area in Karrada district, killing at least six people and wounding up to 16 others," the source said.

"A second explosion took place when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up near a gas station in Baghdad's southeastern district of Baghdad al-Jadida, killing four people and wounding 12 others," the source said.

An earlier report said that the blast was due to a car bomb.

The targets of the three attacks were not clear, the source added. Enditem
