BANGKOK, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand's Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Monday agreed to some of the demands by the main opposition parties for constitutional reforms.
"We support political reform by amending the constitution so asto make it a people's constitution," said Sudarat Keyuraphan, deputy head of Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai party.
However, Sudarat added that there were some differences in the reform proposals of the Democrat, Mahachon and Chart Thai parties, according to Thai newspaper the Nation's website.
The three parties asked Thaksin to commit in writing to reforms, or face a boycott of snap April elections that could throw the democratic process into disarray.
Sudarat said Thaksin would eventually meet personally with the three parties' leaders to hammer out a solution to the political crisis, as demonstrations demanding his ousting entered a second day.
Thaksin called the snap elections last Friday in response to protests by tens of thousands this month, calling for him to resign over corruption allegations. Enditem |
