China gets easy draw for Thomas and Uber Cups

    BEIJING, Feb. 27 -- Chinese shuttlers have a relatively easy draw in the finals of the Thomas and Uber Cups, the world's elite badminton team championships.

    The men's team, spearheaded by world number one, Li Dan, has been placed in Group A along with Germany and India.

    China's arch rivals Indonesia and South Korea are teamed up with New Zealand in Group B.

    In the Uber Cup, Chinese women have been drawn against Chinese Taipei and the United States in Group W.

    The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.

    A total of 12 teams will compete in the finals of the Thomas and Uber Cups, which will be held in Japan from April 28-May 7.

    Following is the draw for the Thomas and Uber Cups' Final Round:

    Thomas Cup draw

    Group A: China; Germany; India

    Group B: South Korea; Indonesia; New Zealand

    Group C Denmark; Japan; South Africa

    Group D Malaysia; England; USA

    
Uber Cup draw

    Group W: China; Chinese Taipei; USA

    Group X: Netherlands; England; Chinese Hong Kong

    Group Y: South Korea; Germany; Singapore

    Group Z: Japan; New Zealand; South Africa
