MANILA, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The
commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps, Major General Renato Miranda, has
been relieved of duty, a military spokesman said on Sunday.
"We just got word that he was relieved. We are still
waiting for official orders," Marine spokesman Major Melquaides Ordiales said in
an informal message.
"The reason given was personal but he (asked) for his
relief," a military official told reporters on condition of anonymity.
Miranda asked for his relief during a meeting with
Navy chief Vice Admiral Mateo Mayuga at the Navy Headquarters in Manila on
Sunday afternoon, according to the official.
Miranda was replaced by his deputy, Brigadier General
Nelson Allaga, the official added.
However, Mayuga and military chief General Generoso
Senga could not be reached for confirmation. Enditem |
