MANILA, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Philippine Marine Corps headquarters on
Sunday evening came into a look of unrest, as disgruntled officers gathered
there to show their sentiment and questioned against the relief of Marine
Commandant Renato Miranda.
Lt. Colonel Ariel Querubin arrived at the marine barracks in Fort Bonifacio on
Sunday afternoon with a platoon of Marines in full battle gear, two hours after
the Armed Forces relieved Marine Commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda of his
command.
"We want to show our anger. Why was our commander relieved," the officer
shouted.
Two armored personnel carrier tanks entered the Marines headquarters, local
ANC TV video footage showed.
Miranda's replacement, Nelson Allaga as new Marines commandant told
reporters that the situation at their headquarters is an "internal matter" and
that he would take Querubin into custody.
The Marine colonel was implicated in the alleged foiled plot to unseat
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called on the public to come to Marine
headquarters in Fort Bonifacio to "protect us from aggression."
"I will wait for the people to come here and protect us from aggression,"
Querubin told ANC television at Fort Bonifacio.
Querubin said he would be holed up at the Marine Corps headquarters to show
support for his former Commandant Renato Miranda, who was relieved upon his
request on Sunday.
When asked about the alleged threats of aggression, Querubin said,"I don't
know, but I expect that to happen."
The Marine colonel said he would join protests so that efforts to oust President Arroyo "will not turn bloody." Enditem |
