Russian enrichment proposal for Iran still on table: report
www.chinaview.cn 2006-02-25 18:58:49

MOSCOW, Feb. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia's uranium enrichment proposal to Iran is still on the negotiating table, the head of Russia's Atomic Energy Agency said on Saturday.

Moscow's offer to enrich uranium for Iran on Russian territory "certainly remains on the table," Sergei Kiriyenko, quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency, said in Tehran after talks with Gholamreza Aghazadeh, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization.

"We have a sufficient number of experts in order to answer all questions from the Iranian partners," Kiriyenko said.

Russia and Iran held two days of talks on the proposal earlier this week in the Russian capital. A top Iranian negotiator labeled the Moscow talks as "constructive and positive" and said certain elements of the discussion gave hope that an agreement may be reached.

The Russian plan is seen as a crucial attempt to resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program before the March 6 meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which reports say could start a process leading to UN punishment for Iran. Enditem
