Feb. 25 -- Taiwan pop sensation Jay Chou is being investigated on suspicion of
faking a spinal ailment to avoid serving his obligatory two years of military
service, a prosecutor said on Friday.
If convicted of faking a health report to avoid
military service, Chou could face a maximum five years in jail.
The Apple Daily and the United Evening News quoted an
unidentified Alfa executive as saying Chou received an exemption from conscript
service in 1999 when he was 20.
"He still suffers acute spinal pain whenever he is
too tired or exercises too much," the executive was quoted as saying.
The hospital that issued Chou's diagnostic report
declined to make comments on the probe and his conditions, citing patients'
privacy.
A medical expert said the patients of such spinal a
disease normally show no obvious physical signs on appearance.
