กก   SINGAPORE, Feb. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- A spokesman from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday in a statement that Singapore is against any unilateral move to change the status quo across the Taiwan Straits.

"Singapore has a One-China policy and is opposed to any unilateral move to change the status quo," the statement said.

It added that the proposal to abolish the "National UnificationCouncil" and the "National Unification Guidelines" in Taiwan wouldbe unhelpful to cross-strait relations.

Taiwan authority leader Chen Shui-bian has made a series of "Taiwan independence" remarks since the Chinese lunar New Year, including those about doing away with the "National Unification Council" and the "National Unification Guidelines".

Chen Yunlin, director of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said Wednesday that Chen Shui-bian's remarks are a risky sign of escalation of Taiwan separatists' activities.

Spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council LiWeiyi said Friday that the Chinese mainland is following closely the independence activities of Taiwan authority leader and will take measures to cope with the possible complicated situation. Enditem
