WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States rejected on Thursday a suggestion by former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer who said that the United States could join the European Union in talks with Iran.
"We are comfortable with the approach we have taken," State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said at a briefing, referring to the approach that the United States has been supporting but not attending EU's talks with Iran.
Fischer said on Wednesday that the United States should join the talks.
"It would be really helpful if the United States could join," Fischer said at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies. "We have an important opportunity to solve this if we work together."
The United States has threatened to refer Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions. Enditem |
