Swedes hail Turin Games as their best ever

¡¡ ¡¡STOCKHOLM, Feb. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- "GOLDFEVER" was the banner headline in Thursday's edition of Stockholm daily Svenska Dagbladet after the Swedish Olympic delegation won two gold medalsand a bronze at the Turin Games on Wednesday.

    The Turin Games was on Thursday slated to become the Nordic nation's best Winter Olympics to date, surpassing the 1948 St Moritz Games, with the prospect of at least a silver medal from the women's curling where Sweden takes on Switzerland in the final.

    "The Medal Day That Beat All Swedish Olympic Records" wrote daily Dagens Nyheter of the gold medals won by Anja Paerson in thewomen's slalom and Bjorn Lind in the men's sprint, and the sprint bronze collected by Thobias Fredriksson.

    Tabloid Expresssen headlined its Olympic coverage "Victory day!" with headlines of "GOLD AT LAST, ANJA!", "SEMIFINAL FOR TEAM SWEDEN" in the men's ice hockey, "GOLD, BJORN!", "FINAL, ANNETTE!"of curling team skipper Annette Norberg, and "BRONZE, THOBIAS".

    Rival tabloid Aftonbladet highlighted that King Carl XVI Gustafcalled Bjorn Lind and Anja Paerson to congratulate them after their victories.

    Lind told the newspaper he could hardly remember what he told the king during the phone call minutes after he won his second Olympic gold medal.

    Sweden has collected 10 medals so far in Turin. Enditem
