BANGKOK, Feb. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The Thai government has decided to consult with the Parliament on four issues at a joint meeting between the two Houses expected to begin on March 6, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam said Tuesday.
Wissanu, speaking after a weekly Cabinet meeting, told reporters that the government would raise during the general debate the issues of involving law enforcement regarding the Ministry of Finance and certain state agencies; a second round of political reform; corruption; and free-trade agreements with foreign countries.
When asked if the alleged ethical problem involving Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra would be discussed, Wissanu said it would be unusual for the government to raise such an issue. However, any participant could raise the issue if he or she was "artful enough".
The deputy premier was quoted by the Bangkok Post's web editionas saying that the government would discuss with their counterparts in the opposition and representatives from the Senateabout preparing for the joint debate. He expected it to begin on March 6 and continue for a week.
However, Parliament President Bhokin Bhalakula would have the final say on the schedule, he said.
Thaksin recently proposed a joint meeting between the two Houses to debate about an ongoing "political crisis" amidst mounting pressure against him. Enditem |
