KATHMANDU, Feb. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The largest business community of Nepal has recommended the Nepali government to established special economic zones in areas bordering China, state run Radio Nepal reported here Tuesday.
"Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI)recommended the government to establish the zones in order to attract Chinese investment in a large extent," the radio quoted Chandi Raj Dhakal, chairman of FNCCI, as saying.
Dhakal made the remarks Monday evening at a meeting with a 19-member Chinese trade delegation led by Xu Huijuan, director of Wuxi City Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the radio said.
"China's entry into South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation as an observer has opened a new avenue and for reshaping the existing avenues for regional, economic and integration," said Kush Kumar Joshi, vice president of FNCCI, the largest federal non-government organization of Nepal.
Nepal was ready to take tremendous challenges and opportunities by opening a transit point between China and India, Joshi said, adding, "Nepal is also ready for tripartite joint venture in Nepal between the three countries including China, Nepal and India."
"The main objective of our visit is to enhance understanding and promote trade and investment between China and Nepal," Xu said at the meeting.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Kathmandu on Monday for a three-day unofficial visit. They are also scheduled to visit other South Asian countries, the radio added. Enditem |
