COLOMBO, Feb. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- An Indonesian fishing trawler was arrested in southern Sri Lanka, police said Monday.
The harbour police in the southern port town of Galle said that the trawler with 16 people on board had been arrested in the seas 50 nautical miles off the Galle coast.
The police added that investigations were being conducted for leads on any links to a possible illegal immigration scam as the island had in the recent past become a popular transit station for illegal immigrants travelling to Europe on fishing trawlers.
When questioned, the crew had told the police they were trying to reach the land in order for the trawler's captain to gain access to medical attention.
The Galle harbour police were to produce them before the town's magistrate late on Monday. Enditem
