MADRID, Feb. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Two British climbers died while climbing a mountain in the Europa Peaks National Park in north Spain, according to a statement published on Sunday by local authorities.
The two climbers, Catherine Louisa Stokes from Southampton and Robert Rippengal from Cambridge, were reported missing Saturday onthe Cantabrica mountain range. Local authorities sent the Special Mountain Group to hunt for the two people and found them on Sunday.
Stokes was found alive by rescuers, close to Rippengal's body in the Cachorral de Hormas zone of the Cillorgo de Liebana mountain. However, she died on the way to the nearest hospital in Arriondas, Asturias. Enditem |
